Course Description

In this day where we are constantly barraged by horrific reports of and what seems like ever increasing violence, it is more important than ever to have a plan and a solid understanding of the issues that go into addressing this fraught topic.  These events can occur in workplaces and other types of public settings that you may have responsibility for as a facility or design professional or need to respond to as an employee. 

As managers of the workplace, with responsibilities for the building and fellow workers, what can you do when the unexpected occurs? Whether it is domestic violence spilling into your workplace, a difficult termination, or conflict between co-workers, there are things that can be done both ahead of time, and in the moment, to increase the likelihood of a positive outcome.  

Bio:

Erin Weeks is the co-founder of Professional Facility Management Solutions LLC alongside her husband Steve Weeks.  ProFMSolutions provides facility management, consulting, facility layout and set-up services around the US.  

Raised in southern California, Erin received her undergraduate degree from Pepperdine University in Psychology.   After moving to the Winston-Salem area, Erin earned her Masters at Wake Forest University.  Erin spent much of her career working in the field of violence prevention and non-profit management.  During that time, Erin trained hundreds of professional and community groups on issues related to violence prevention and mitigation, spoke to groups about keeping homes and workplaces free from violence and providing resources to victims of violence allowing them to get help and out of their dangerous situations.  Erin’s work in the field of violence detection and prevention has been published in several peer reviewed journals.  

The past several years Erin has focused her attention to homeschooling and volunteering with several community groups around the triad. Currently she is on the board of a local horse rescue, serves at her church, and with refugees in the Winston-Salem area.  She loves knitting, reading, riding horses, and traveling.  Erin and Steve have two kids, one at NC State and one finishing his sophomore year of high school.
